Section 11- Babies

The staff have a good understanding of the Birth to three matter framework and have put this into practice. The baby room in this nursery is very cosy and homely; staff have a genuine commitment to the care and well being of the babies. The babies were given a wide variety of activities and experiences for the babies. They included natural materials and home made water bottles (bottles with different liquids and colours). The play was changed frequently to keep the babies interest while not removing something that a baby was enjoying. Routine of the babies day were gained from the parent/carer on induction and this was carried out in the nursery. The babies that were bottle-fed were on staff’s knees having the one to one interaction. Older babies were encouraged to feed themselves and help given when required. Daily diaries were maintained; this complimented the daily verbal interaction staff had with parents and carers. The one to one interaction with the babies day, with a high ratio of staff to children the staff were able to provide for all these very young children’s needs.
Section 14 - Work experience Students
The nursery had a clear and detailed student policy; this ensured students were aware of who within the nursery was their supervisor and who to go to for support and advice. There was a clear line of communication between the colleges and the nursery prior and throughout the student placement. Accurate evaluation of the individual abilities of the student is provided by the nursery. Action plans are devised for the student who may be having difficulty meeting targets.
